Bethany Summersgill: Flutist, Piccoloist, Baroque Flutist

Bethany Summersgill (previously Gonella) is a flutist, piccoloist, and baroque flute player based in Saint Paul, Minnesota.  She performs regularly as an acting flutist and piccoloist of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra,  as associate principal flutist of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, and as a substitute musician with the Minnesota Orchestra.  She previously played with the Chione Quintet, an active woodwind quintet based in the Twin Cities, and as principal flutist of the Winona Symphony and piccoloist of the La Crosse Symphony.  

Bethany works as a freelance musician in the Twin Cities and is available to perform at social and religious events as a soloist or with small chamber groups. If you are interested in hiring her as a performer for an event, please contact Bethany to learn more.

Bethany maintains an active flute teaching studio along with her performance work and enjoys working with students of all levels and ages.  She teaches both privately in the Twin Cities and as adjunct flute professor at the University of St. Thomas.  She previously taught for five years at Winona State University.  If you are interested in flute lessons, please visit the lessons page for information.

​COVID-19 note about teaching:  Bethany is currently offering in-person lessons for fully vaccinated students ONLY and online facetime/skype flute lessons as well as online group lessons for students who are unvaccinated or prefer to remain online.  Lessons have been successful, fun, and productive for students from ages 5 through 70-something!  She is happy to take on new students during this time.  If you have questions about lessons, please get in touch.
